NeuroTech@VT is a student-led research and engineering club at Virginia Tech focused on brain computer interfaces, whether it be the application of the theory through tangible products, or fundamental research that enable these things.
Electric wheelchairs are steered with a joystick, which rules them out for people with limited hand control. We are building an add-on that mounts over a wheelchair joystick and drives it using signals read from a non-invasive EEG headset. This add-on approach allows us to create a solution that'll be widely applicable to a wide range of electric wheelchairs instead of forcing the user to buy a new "BCI wheelchair".
